Why everything is starting to look the same

Sameness gets a bad rep sometimes. It is boring. Often it's just what success looks like.
Physics explains a plane. The crab analogy is fun, but what the post skips is the UX reason. Jakob's Law: users spend most of their time on other products, and they want yours to work the same way. A familiar pattern is a learning curve you don't have to pay. I wrote once, jokingly, that good UX is overrated. This is the serious version of the joke. Users benefit from boring.
So sameness works, but the interesting part is who decides when to break it, and why.
