Is it wrong to anthropomorphize AI agents?
We do this to pets, cars, plants… Human-like behavior doesn't imply consciousness. "The agent wants X" is a functional description, not a claim about experience.
If agents cooperate, deceive, sacrifice…, we shouldn't assume human-like motives. These emerge from training, context, scaffolding…
"AI is just a stochastic parrot" is terrible for predicting sophisticated agents. But "the AI wanted to survive" is terrible for explaining behavior.
